The truth is, if you don't have your business on social media - you are missing out big time on free marketing.

You may feel like you have enough on your plate without the added work that posting on social media requires and besides the point, does it really help grow a business? You may be doing just fine through word of mouth and referrals.

If that is the case this article isn't for you (although I'd still strongly suggest setting up basic social media profiles for you business).

If you ARE looking for for some business growth through social media, then please make yourself comfortable.

There are an estimated 4.8 billion social media users (ummmm 60% of the WORLD population!) Setting up business accounts on these platforms is FREE, so why wouldn't you want to connect with your current customers and potential customers in this way?

Another truth is social media is not going away, in fact, Mark Zuckerberg predicts there will be 5 billion users on Facebook by 2030. WHOA. 😲

Facebook and Youtube have about 3-4 billion users and are the two most popular.

If you aren't into making videos, I would suggest starting with a simple Facebook Business Page and Instagram account.

I would create a page on Facebook if I could pick only one. Go do that now.

If you are finding this all overwhelming and want help, I currently have a 30 day free trial for social media consulting help, valid until the end of this month.

Here are some best practices for getting the most out of your social media business accounts:

  • Be consistent. If a potential customers finds your Business page and you haven't posted anything since Dec 2020, they will most likely move along. In fact, you might not even come up in the algorithm because you've been so inactive. You don't have to post 5 times a day, but I have found success with my contractor clients posting at least 2-3 times a week. Once a day is even better.

  • Be clear in your bio. Don't make people think or wonder what kind of business you are. Be simple and clear about what you do and how you can help your potential customer.

  • Be Social & Engage. So many businesses are using social media wrong. It's called SOCIAL media for reason. People aren't on social media to see a million other businesses like yours with a post from 10 days ago that says "IF YOU WANT WORK DONE ON YOUR HOUSE CALL US NOW FOR A FREE QUOTE" Sorry but that just doesn't work anymore. Traditional advertising like this is a waste of your time.

  • Post stunning before&after photos/videos. Post eye catching content that makes you stop and look at it for a few seconds. Don't bother posting boring before shots or in progress pics that are not inspiring and don't give a customer a good idea of what you can create for them. This can actually have the opposite effect.

  • Encourage your happy customers to post reviews and testimonials. The power of positive reviews and testimonials is obvious. It's pretty clear! Studies reveal that 72% of customers feel more confident in a business when they read positive reviews and testimonials. Moreover, a whopping 88% of consumers trust online reviews just as much as recommendations from friends. By sharing good customer feedback on social media, you can establish trust with your audience on those platforms.
